Brockton Massachusetts City Information

The city of Brockton MA has a population of about 95,000 and is one of the country seats of Plymouth County. Brockton, sometimes referred to as the “City of Champions” due to it being the home place of Rocky Marciano and Marvin Hagler. It is the seventh largest city in Massachusetts and is considered to be one of the windiest cities in the US. Two of the villages within the city are Montello and Campello. Campello is the smallest neighborhood in the city, but also the most populous. Brockton became a city in April 1881. During the Civil War, the city of Brockton was America’s largest maker of shoes, and Brockton had a large shoe and leather products industry until the latter parts of the 20th century.
